ADHD Consulting
Who Is This For
Intellectually curious adults with ADHD who are seeking philosophical frameworks to understand their condition beyond the standard medical model
Why You Are Here
You are here because nothing has worked how you want it to. You've tried hard and probably spent large sums of money. I will be honest with you upfront. There are no simple hacks to rewire the brain. There are no 10 step methods or 7 principles. There are no guaranteed ways to get what you want which is change for a better life.
You have a goal or desire you want met. You need strategic help in getting the results you seek. You may want to start a new habit, craft a study plan for an exam, prepare for a demanding professional role, or just live a more fulfilling life.
Who Am I
My name is Christopher Calvin Govender. Professionally, I am a mechanical engineer. I solve problems for my employers from designing new products to managing risk and compliance regarding safety critical incidents. I have been doing this for more than a decade. But I've also been solving problems in my own life. I found out I have ADHD in 2020 during the covid lockdown. The symptoms were there for as long as I can remember but I was never tested before 2020. Fed up that I found no one that could help me I decided to help myself and I did! Now, I want to help you.
Why I Can Help You
I know that all problems are soluble because all problems are (lack of) knowledge problems. There are no physical limitations to finding/creating solutions to them. Suffering is a problem but problems are not necessarily suffering. Our goal is to find problems we love. I love the problem of figuring out how to help you love problems in your life. Problems provide a wonderful opportunity.
(I wrote much more about this but deleted it. I have to stop myself from rambling because I love this so much.)
My Role
I am not a therapist, doctor, psychologist, or coach. I am a problem solver. You are too. Maybe you don't know it yet. My goal is to nurture learning experiences that demonstrate you have the capabilities to solve the problems you face. You just don't have the specific knowledge to harness them yet. I hope to explain to you that you are a creative solution-creating machine because this is what I am. We will begin by focusing on developing specific habits.
Tools I Will Use To Help You
Here are the two main tools I will use in this process:
SMARTER-OS
This tool helps you try to explain why habit-building is not occurring or is occurring suboptimally. We aim to find good explanations that will give you an “aha” moment and create breakthrough knowledge for you. Unlike common frameworks or advice this tool does not tell you what to do nor will I. It suggests that you find the knowledge and therefore you tell yourself what to do.
Big Foggy Missing
Our use of language can tell us so much about how we view the world and ourselves in it. It is the only accessible representation of our models of reality. We will use this tool to uncover pieces of your model of reality. Your model of reality is not reality. It simplifies reality to a point where you can operate within it, but this means it has flaws and may be mistaken about some parts of reality. We will improve your model such that it no longer limits you but empowers you in the areas you want.
What To Expect In Our First Session
You have the option of two paths in our first session: systematic and structured or wild and free. The systematic approach entails building up from “foundational” principles. The wild approach dives straight into tackling your problems.
The first session is free with no hidden costs or other requirements. Sessions are typically an hour long. This is an absolute bargain for me if you become a long-term client. Thereafter, if you choose to continue my rate is $150 per session. If you know you can't afford the $150 use the first free session anyway. It could be enough to help you.
Progress Is Important
If I am not helping you make progress it won't be because of a lack of trying. But once we know this we have to part ways. That's a good thing. I don't want to delay you finding someone who can help you, and I don't want you to delay me from helping someone else.
Client Attributes I look for
The kind of clients I work best with are :
- Open to hearing what I say
- Know that misunderstandings are inevitable therefore we must take the time to try to understand each other.
- They are welcome to criticize my points and push back, respectfully
- They want to learn
- They understand my role is not to give advice or prescriptions. I may offer suggestions but usually, we think the problem through together.
- They understand that I am their partner in solving problems, I cannot solve their problems without them
My Promises To You
- I promise you will see results by the 3rd session or we part ways with a full refund to you for prior sessions.
- I promise I will make mistakes because that means I care more about helping you than how errors make me look, but I will learn from them quickly.
- I promise to treat you as a friend while being a superstar employee.
