40. Being Helpful

Everyone is different, having different skills or things they are good at. When someone needs help, like when they are feeling sad or scared, the helper tries to understand what makes that person special. They look at what the person has learned from life, what they're good at, and how they usually solve problems. Then, they use these special things about the person to help them feel better and solve their problems. The helper, for example, may use what that person already thinks and feels to help them enter a dreamy state of mind where anything is possible. This place is designed in the person's mind to encourage them to use their ideas and feelings to get better. Ultimately, the helper needs to figure out what these things are for each person to find the best way to help them help themselves. The helper shouldn't just tell the person what to think or feel based on the helper's ideas. Instead, the helper should help create a situation where the person can use their thoughts and feelings in a way that works best for them in their own life. The helper’s goal is to understand and use what's already inside a person to help them solve their problems in their unique way.
