19. Trying To See The Whole Picture

Have you ever made a cup of coffee? It is really simple. You grind some coffee beans, put them in a filter, pour hot water over them, and voilà—coffee is served. Of course, you can add extras like cream and sugar, or maybe some vanilla and cinnamon if you want to be fancy. Maybe you took an easier path. You made some instant coffee but sometimes you treat yourself to Starbucks. Getting the flavor just right is a delicate balance between water temperature, the size of the coffee grounds, and the method of brewing. We drink coffee for the taste but the kick of the caffeine is the cherry on top. Now, you have to decide between Arabica and Robusta. They are coffee plants and have different caffeine contents. Robusta beans contain almost double the caffeine of Arabica beans. Caffeine acts as a natural insecticide for the plants. Robusta, being more pest-resistant, has a higher caffeine concentration.

"Bro, I just wanted a simple cup of coffee."

"Comin’, right up!"

Sometimes (actually most of the time) things are not as straightforward as they seem. There may be decisions we make, judgments we conclude, and opinions we share that represent something far more complex than they appear. When should we care to look? That is the question.
